Humanizing Your Brand & Telling Your Story

Your Company Story

Every company should have a video (or better yet a series of videos) on their website that highlights who they are and what they do. And there’s no better way to humanize the workplace than with content about the wonderful employees that make up your team! Hearing directly from your employees will help your company’s content feel more genuine and personal – it puts faces to names. It can also be a point of pride for your company to have a piece of content that shows off your company in the best way possible! This will not only ideally help your current employees feel proud about where they work, but also encourage people who are looking to join your team as well.

For the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, we hosted a media day at our office and captured LOTS of content. We took new headshots for them (which we’ll get into more later), got some fun 360 video and sat their team members down for some interviews. Our team used all of that content to put together a company story for them called “In Our Own Words“. This video not only highlights what work the Joe Andruzzi Foundation does, but also features almost all of their team members talking about why they love working at the foundation.

Another company story that we put together was for Shepley Wood. For this project, we interviewed employees but we were also able to capture shots of the Shepley team at work in their environment. This way, viewers can not only hear the great things that employees have to say about working at Shepley, but they can see it in action too!

Digital Science wanted to create a suite of content that would mainly serve as a recruiting tool. Our team put together a series of videos for them that highlighted their employees talking about Digital Science’s core values, as well as an overall video about what the company is and what they do. This video series was a great way to create content that showed their company in a positive light directly from the employees’ points of view.

There are also plenty of other, creative ways to show off your organization and your people in addition to a company story. And ideally, you can use this content to help fill your content calendar as well as refreshing your website!

Getting Creative With Your "About Us" Page

The theme here is humanizing your company. So, show off who your people are! Get creative and show some personality on your “About Us” or “Our Team” page. An easy way to do this is to have some fun with bios. If you read the bios for our team, you’ll learn that Jake is in a bowling league, Kyle has plenty of opinions on Florida State football, Brooklyn designs tattoos, and Phil has crazy dogs. Everyone’s bios show off their individual personalities rather than just regurgitating their resume. But it’s also helpful to include some other content that will help shine a light on who your people are.

As I mentioned earlier, we captured headshots for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation during their media day. We captured basic headshots of everyone on the team, but we also captured some more fun personality shots too! They took this new content and used it to refresh their team page. Additionally, when you hover over each of their headshots, there is a GIF that just adds another touch of personality for each team member. (The 5 Tool Productions team page does the same thing, go check out what our GIFs are!)

Our team did the same thing for Tighe Logistics, another one of our clients. We captured some standard headshots as well as some personality shots to give them a range of photos that they used to update their team page, but also to have other options that they can use down the road! Our favorite prompt to get these fun personality shots is to tell people to make the face they would make at their niece or nephew to make them laugh, or to do whatever their go-to face is for a “funny” group photo.

Videos are another great way to tell the story of who your people are. We’ve already discussed creating an overall company story video, but you can also create content that is more individualized! Every member of the team here at 5 Tool has a “Get to Know” video attached to their headshot. We want people to know the people behind 5 Tool Productions! (So yes, this proves we’re also practicing what we preach).

Our team helped The Castle Group create content that was not only informative and relevant to the events industry, but also helped people get to know their employees. Similarly to how we captured the Joe Andruzzi Foundation content, we visited The Castle Groups’ office and sat a bunch of their employees down for interviews that they could then repurpose to incorporate into blog posts, turn into Get to Know videos, and put out on social as shorter form clips.

And for Signal Real Estate, we produced a series of Get to Know videos that would help their clients get to know their real estate agents better. We followed the same model for these videos as we did in our own team’s get to know videos; we kept it simple with some typical get to know you questions paired with industry related questions.

We also tell company and individuals’ stories through our Power Hitters series. Our team finds cool, local people and/or companies and tells their story!
