Creating Videos for Stewardship Campaign

Ever wonder how to elevate a Stewardship campaign? We’ve got you covered. Here at 5 Tool Productions we worked alongside the Museum of Science to bring their Stewardship campaign to life through a series of short-form videos. From individual impact videos, to a Giving Society video, to an overall Stewardship video campaign, we did it all.

Exploring Ideas and Concepts

How do you thank those who are donors? How do you show off the impact giving has on individual teaching groups? These are few of the many questions we encountered when taking on this project. The goals we were provided with were to create a suite of assets that can be used to thank new donors to the Museum, highlight the impact philanthropy has on the community and Museum, and further showcase the need for more financial support. We also needed to show how the Museum is a teaching institution, and not just for children, but for people who want to learn more about the world around them. The team at the Museum wanted to accomplish these goals through video content that felt lighthearted and fun. They came to us with these goals in mind and tasked us with solving the problem. Now, how do we execute these goals?

Creative Process

Concept

Now that we had an idea of where the Museum wanted to go with this project, it was time to brainstorm a concept! Knowing one of the goals was to highlight the Museum as a teaching institution, we came up with the idea that educators from the Museum would “teach a lesson” on camera to show off the types of things people can learn at the Museum. But, we needed to remember that they wanted the content to be fun as well.  The easiest way to accomplish that feel was through scripting and through visuals.

We decided to use an old school overhead projector as the prop each educator would use to teach their lesson. That also helped the videos feel cohesive – the projector was our one consistent prop throughout all of the videos. Then, we designed individualized sets for each video that helped lighten up the content.

Our team created a mock set in our studio to test out some shot ideas with the projector! We wanted to make sure we accomplished the look and feel we were going for.

Set Design

In the spirit of keeping things high energy we wanted to create sets to reflect that! After consulting with the team at the Museum to decide on relevant topics, we created four different sets for each topic: Space, Environment, AI and Life Sciences. Each set had it’s own colored backdrop and we procured props to go along with the individual lessons that would be relevant for the topic, but also match the color scheme (plants for environment, robots for AI, etc).

Part of our concept also included the role of a narrator that would start and end each video and help guide viewers through the content. Instead of creating a set for these scenes, we went around the Museum and filmed with our narrator in relevant exhibits. For example, the shot of the narrator in the AI exhibit would be the start to the AI video, and so on.

Results

After all these steps, we produced a series of 4 individual impact videos, 1 thank you video, and 2 different versions of a Stewardship video. The videos are meant to be sent out to new donors and members of any one of the Museum’s Giving Societies as a thank you and a reminder of what their gifts help the Museum do.
