As the name suggests, creating a specific location on site where you and your attendees can sit down and record episodes, testimonials, and any other sort of content is easy and effective! We have seen anything from a full side stage with a crowd, to constructing a studio in a glass box to record your podcast. Having that dedicated space allows attendees to get their eyes on the product before you release it as well as have their chance to say great things about the event they are attending. Word of mouth is a great tool so the more eye catching your booth can be the better!
We helped produce an on-site podcast at the Administrative Professionals Conference 2023 in Las Vegas that created a buzz around the conference hall. They had the idea of recording content each day and interviewing those who had good things to say, but the only problem is there was no great place to do the recordings. So the APC team had the brilliant idea of building a small podcast studio in a glass box located right outside the lunch and keynote areas.
This was great because it was placed in a heavy traffic area and allowed passersby to watch as their fellow colleagues recorded episodes and testimonials. Enhanced by a great photo-op area with the podcast logo, the simple studio was a great execution of this simple idea, and the team got so much usable content out of it to boot.
Another example of the Pop-Up Podcast was at the 2023 Integrative Healthcare Symposium in New York City. Our team was on site to capture some photos and videos for promotional material, but the podcast side stage definitely caught their eyes. It was located away from the sessions and keynote rooms and was tucked in right on the trade show floor. This was effective because as attendees are walking around looking at products and talking to sponsors, they could catch a talk with a big name author or listen to an interview with an industry expert. Opposed to the APC studio, this was a real mini-stage that was put up for this purpose and surrounded by bean bags, stools and tables for passersby to grab a seat and comfortably listen to whoever was on the pod. As our team traversed the conference, they never saw an empty seat in the audience!
Besides hopping on a hot trend, the Pop-Up Podcast can really be a great tool to enhance the in-person experience at your event, but also help it live on after the event is over by using all the great content that was captured. It is up to you whether you want it to be audio only or include a video aspect to your podcast, but getting those live, authentic reactions of attendees is such a valuable asset to use in highlights of the event and promotional material for the next event. You can use them in short, shareable clips to post across your social channels or edit them together into full length episodes for your audience to enjoy. Getting notable guests/speakers/sponsors on the podcast is great because once posted, they can share it around their pre-existing fan base and give your content and event a wave of new eyes!
