Over two days, we filmed on-site at SAFE, located in Franklin, MA. We created a two-camera set up to film Impact stories, Training Videos, and interviews with those who are a part and assist with SAFE’s mission. Due to the nature of the work at SAFE, this room was chosen for it’s living room feel, very comfortable and welcoming, and to keep everything looking cohesive. To make the most of our time, half the team would conduct the interviews or training videos, while the other half filmed B-Roll for those Training videos , such as NARCAN Training or Hidden in Plain Sight, and also with the individuals from the impact stories. That way we had enough content to be paired with the respective videos.
We filmed six Impact stories with those who have been personally involved and benefitted from programs offered at SAFE. We did an indirect, looking off camera recording style to give it a more story-like feel. There was ample natural light, but we added a few lights to separate the individual from the backdrop and add depth to the image.
We, also, filmed training videos to be a part of SAFE’s Online Diversion Program. The organization has an in-person program, but sometimes individuals cannot be brought to Franklin, so SAFE provides the same program online. This was filmed as a straight on, looking at the camera look, to give the impression the viewer is being spoken to. For training, this was perfect. However, this proved to be slightly difficult for the staff who are used to doing their portions as a group at the office, but they used PowerPoint slides to keep things on schedule. We then paired the slides with their video in post production. The goal was to make all of the videos impactful, but to show the warm side to the organization and let people know SAFE is there for them in a multitude of ways.
Here are a few examples of the impact stories and training videos we filmed over the two days at SAFE.
In the end we created six Impact Stories, eight Training Videos, and three supplemental stories all about how SAFE helped families through their programs, spread the word about what SAFE offers and teaches, and how they can help anyone through dark moments in life. Through their stories, we highlighted how individuals and families have grown and worked through their battles, together and on their own, and are a better individual because of this organization. On top of that, we helped SAFE put their Diversion Program to be online, so that more kids and teens could be reached to get them back in school faster and with the right tools to make better decisions. Overall, this was a great way to capture a lot of content at once and maximize our shoot schedule. We are proud to have been a part of this effort for the SAFE Coalition.
